  • Thinking About Prescribing: The Psychology of Psychopharmacology With Diverse Youth and Families

    Joshi

    116,000 110,000won

"Our remedies are only as good as the way in which we dispense them. That is the central premise of Thinking About Prescribing. In this new, thought-provoking volume, more than two dozen experts make the case for an ongoing alliance between pharmacotherapists, young patients, and their families. Chapters tackle issues ranging from the psychodynamics of medication use in youth with serious mental illness, adapting evidence-based motivation and therapy techniques to enhance adherence, cultivating the synergistic role of primary care providers and psychotherapists, engaging in psychoeducation with patients, to prescribing via telemedicine. Readers will pick up the foundational knowledge they need to develop a partnership with patients that is based on trust and candid communication—rather than on just the cold facts about psychotropic medications. Chapters feature key takeaways that distill the most salient points, helping readers to reference—and retain—the information easily."

"Late-Life Depression and Anxiety empowers health care professionals to accurately identify and diagnose anxiety and depression in older adult patients and help them find relief, stay independent, and lower their risk of suicide. Experienced physicians, new practitioners, residents, and other health care providers can all quickly gain up-to-date knowledge of the scope and seriousness of depression, anxiety, and suicide in older adults, alongside a system of proven assessment and treatment techniques for turning evidence-based theory into practice. Contributing authors from leading universities and veteran hospitals give clinicians a wide range of information in a potent blend of academic theory and practical experience including an easy-to-implement approach to identifying and managing depression and anxiety in older adults and reducing the risk of suicide. The book discusses dependable assessment methods that consider multiple factors of mental health, including medical, behavioral, personal, social, and spiritual and provides guidance on culturally sensitive care to geriatric patients of diverse races, ethnicities, gender identities and sexual orientations, and intellectual abilities. Also included are proven rating scales to ensure more precise diagnoses and truer assessments of treatment outcomes as well as a wealth of practical support, including case examples, informative charts, and useful reference tables. Specialized material covers the unique factors facing older adults, including cognitive impairment, functional independence, and living near the end of life. With this guide, clinicians need never be at a loss for successful strategies for talking to older adults about mental health and suicide prevention, as well as involving families in meaningful ways. Late-Life Depression and Anxiety can help clinicians bring clarity, guidance, and hope to older patients."

  • Psychodynamic Psychopharmacology: Caring for the Treatment-Resistant Patient

    Mintz

    110,000 105,000won

"What if how medication was prescribed was as important as what was prescribed? This is the central tenet of Psychodynamic Psychopharmacology, a new guide that emphasizes integrating research on evidence-based prescribing processes with psychodynamic insights and skills to enhance and optimize treatment outcomes with difficult-to-treat patients. The book examines the incidence and nature of pharmacological treatment resistance, exploring common psychodynamics that contribute to resistance and preparing readers to better understand and formulate the processes that interfere with the healthy use of medications. It offers detailed technical recommendations for addressing patient ambivalence, containing countertransference, and avoiding the all-too-common neglect of the psychological and social factors that contribute to treatment resistance. By putting the patient back at the center of the therapeutic framework, Psychodynamic Psychopharmacology offers a model that moves beyond compliance and emphasizes instead the alliance between patient and prescriber. In doing so, it empowers patients to become more active contributors in their own recovery."

  • Geriatric Mental Health Care: Lessons From a Pandemic

    Roca

    103,000 98,000won

"The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on older adults have been well documented. In the case of older patients with mental illness, these challenges are magnified. And although strides have been made in the delivery of care to this vulnerable population since the pandemic''s emergence, more work remains to be done. The authors of this volume seek to share emerging practices that clinicians and systems can emulate. Introductory case vignettes, easily referenced key takeaways, and multiple-choice questions designed to reinforce learning offer detailed descriptions of clinical and social innovations to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on older patients. Because the contributors worked on this book during the pandemic, the practices described here have been tested and refined in the real world. Through detailed discussion of inpatient geriatric psychiatry, telehealth models of care, health staff concerns, and social determinants of health, as well as nonclinical factors that affect the broader clinical effort, Geriatric Mental Health Care provides techniques that health care providers can use to overcome the challenges of the current pandemic—and prepare for the next one."
